What a refreshing and wonderful article! I came across an awesome article in a vanilla online paper discussing rope suspension and kinks in a very positive and honest way.

The article is focused on the Baltimore Guerrilla Suspension Crew a group created by “John and Lily”, now made up of a small gang of suspension fetishists who enjoy practicing their art in a public setting. Seems that the trade mark of all public suspension photos are the gas masks on all participants. Very cool look.

But this is not a mere article about their group, the author really took the time to write an intelligent and honest piece about the reality scene without the usual prejudice. I loved it. If more journalists wrote such articles the taboos of our community would melt away in no time, well eventually.

The article discuses how this kinky couple met and the fears they had in the past while dating…hoping to find someone not too vanilla. And now they are in a 24/7 relationship. But it is described in a healthy way:

“It’s a 24/7 power exchange,” Lily says. “Someone is submissive and someone is dominant. There is no gray area, everything is drawn out.” “There are diet restrictions,” she says. “I can’t eat without his permission.” John also tells her what to eat. “I don’t want to be a dick and feed her things she doesn’t want,” he says. “I want her to be happy, and I want to show her I’m paying attention.”

Also well explained is the concept of the consideration collar and then eventual real ownership collar which is the vanilla equivalent to marriage.

Other addressed points I really enjoyed was explaining how a scene does not have to be a sexual experience to be enjoyed (although sexual ones are lots of fun) and they discuss how people stereotypically view their relationship as abusive when it is not the case, explaining the difference.

Finally the couple shares their passion for suspension but make sure the risks involved. Suspension is serious play can can be lethal in the wrong hands.

I developed a passion for floor ties since my beginnings in the scene and I took a couple of suspension seminars but without an anchor point at home to practice I have not delved further which I find is a shame. I had the pleasure of being suspended once and LOVED it. When the 15-20 minutes were up I was very disappointed to be let down. Normally a first timer would find 15 very long, I wanted more.
