I am sure most of you have no clue what you would do with Liquid Latex. Well let me tell you, you are missing out on a really fun product. It is a shame that Liquid Latex still remains so unexploited for fun. I hope to enlighten and turn you on to trying it. And with Halloween around the corner is may just be the next best thing after slice bread when it comes to creating a super cool costume.
Three main groups could really benefit from playing with liquid latex. The first is latex fetishist who already have a penchant for this material, usually in lust with the feel touch and smell of the material. The second group are sensation seekers. The act of paint, drying and peeling latex is quite unique. The third group are crafters and costume/make-up artists. Liquid latex can be painted on the body, on textile or a craft project to create a sleek cool texture. I’ll cover all the above more in detail bellow but even if you do not fall into one of these categories I am sure I have peaked your curiosity into trying it for fun in the bed room. ***Note the pictures included in this post were taken during a BDSM play party during a sensory play session with my sub friend salem.
Liquid latex is a rubber made of 65% water, 34.7% latex sap and 0.3% ammonia. Latex is actually a natural product that is derived from tree sap, uses water as its base solvent, and is non-toxic in both a liquid and solid state. Latex’s greatest quality is it has a great memory when it comes to returning to its original shape…sorta like a memory foam mattress. Latex’s biggest fault is its fragility as it can tear and it is very sensitive to oils of any kind, ozone, and UV light. In this liquid form you can apply it to almost anything and let it dry before applying more coats. If you creation will be permanent the latex its molecules will continue to bond over several months, progressively hardening the latex.
This liquid latex application kit is really the ultimate way to explore this fun product the first time as you will have everything you need and you can just replenish a product at a time what ever you use up the fastest. This kit includes a 16 oz. jar of black liquid latex, a 1 oz. pot of rainbow metallic pearl sparkle, a 4 oz. bottle of Latex Body Wash, a dust mask when applying the sparkle powder, a 2 oz. bottle of Ultra Shine, 2 foam paint brushes. The whole kit is packaged in a yellow reusable plastic carrying case. When you eventually want to get more liquid latex you will be amazed by the variety of colors in which it is offered, some colors also available being fluorescent which can be very cool when clubbing under black lights.
So how do you use it? All you have to do is apply a thin layer and then let it dry at room temperature in about 5-10 minutes. In order to speed up the drying process, gently heat the liquid latex with a hair dryer. After the surface coat is dry to the touch you can reapply another layer and so on until you achieve the desired thickness. It will completely dry in about 1 hour and be ready to use in about 4 hours. You can drip, pour, dip, paint and spray on the liquid latex. Usually the best method is using foam brushes like the 2 included. If you apply the liquid latex to a non-porous surface it will not stick permanently to it. Porous surfaces, like textiles, will permanently hold the latex once cured. The sparkles included in the kit can give the liquid latex an added sheen; just either add the sparkles to the liquid latex before applying or apply it to the final dry coating surface. The result is a shiny and glittery surface. If you find the surface a little dull then rub a bit of the Ultra Shine on it to bring out a luster and a wet slick look.
Now you know almost all about this product but I bet you are still wondering what exactly you can do with it. Well let’s get back to our Latex Fetishists and the curious. Why do they enjoy it so much? Because the latex will shrink by about 3% and this will create a sensuous second skin sensation. Many enthusiasts enjoy the feeling of being cocooned or encased. Now imagine having sex while feeling encased…to some this is a huge turn-on. Yes you can apply this liquid latex directly to the skin…if you follow a few rules. To make removal easier it is always a good idea to apply any standard body lotion on the skin first…but it is not necessary. Also liquid latex will bond to body hair…even the invisible peach fuzz we do not see. So if you do not want a painful experience SHAVE or add lots of lotion. But hey if you are dealing with a masochist who cares, remember my session with muzhik? Should you need to remove the latex that is stuck or embedded in hair do not fret, just shower with a generous amount of soap to help lubricate the liquid latex or use the included Latex Body Wash. Now going back to the sensation play just look at my pictures. Apply 2 layers of liquid latex and once it is dry peel off a section carefully and it will peel right of in one solid sheet. Once peeled off it crumples up on itself. This is really cool to experience and to watch. In public this activity always draws in a crowd and lots of volunteers.
Have you seen the price of latex garments in stores and online? We are talking 3 to 4 digit prices here. Want a really cheap alternative? Make your own with liquid latex! The very informative pamphlet included in the kit gives complete instruction on how to make a custom pair of gloves or a full cat suit. For a catsuit it takes one full quart (32 ounces) of liquid latex to cover the body entirely with 3 coats. Keep in mind what ever garment you make, it will shrink by about 3%. For a skin tight garment make sure to use a textile that is elastic like spandex. Or maybe by reading this review there are about a dozen crafting projects coming to your head, like latex jewelery. How about painting your face with your favorite team colors before a game that will hold on netter then face paint? You are limit only by your imagination.
Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
- Until the product is fully cured, liquid latex will stick to itself and may tear. To prevent this just rub or spray on some of the Ultra Shine.
– You can wear liquid latex without worries for a few hours, the longer you wear it perspiration and natural oils from your skin will lift liquid latex slightly above the surface of the skin, easing the peel off process. Liquid Latex will not clog your pores and your skin will breathe normally.
– Liquid latex uses ammonia as a preservative agent. When you open the jar the ammonia fumes will attack your nose right away. This is temporary, just let the jar air out for about 5 to 10 min before use. It will not smell at all once it dries. If you are allergic to ammonia do not use this product.
– Some people can have a sensitive reaction to latex or a latex allergy. Therefor a patch test 24 prior to use is essential. If the skin becomes red, swollen and/or irritated it is safer to discontinue use.
I really like this kit overall. This liquid latex is of very good quality. I have used a cheaper one in the past and it sucked. This one is solid quality wise. The sparkles are a bit tough to apply evenly, I found the easiest way was with a dry foam brush. The foam brushes in the kit were awful because the handle was not even glued tot he foam! They went in the garbage and I bought a pack of 10 for 1$ at the store. I did not use the mask, I don’t think it is really necessary. The Ultra Shine works great and stops the latex from sticking to itself. You can also see how it brings out a wet look on the bracelet picture. Finally the body wash was just as good as regular soap. When I applied it to salem for the sensation session everything went perfectly and it was a lot of fun for both of us. When I made the bracelet I rushed things a bit and paid for it. You have to be patient and meticulous if you plan on using it in a craft or clothes project. Patience will be rewarded…but you will need a lot of it. If you are curious this is a greet intro liquid latex application kit.
