I was in the mood for a bit of naughty reading. But not just any old sultry story. I wanted blood in it too! I knew the book The Sweetest Kiss: Ravishing Vampire Erotica would fit my demanding bill to a T. Bring on the fangs and lust baby! WIN A COPY, see contest below

A collection of 19 short vampire erotica stories are reunited in this book edited by D.L. King. Although we have never met, every once in a while D.L. and I have a lovely chat and exchange pleasant banter online. I even have a very personally autographed copy of her own book entitled The Melinoe Project. So when I saw the Sweetest Kiss was edited by her – something I only noticed when the book arrived – I knew I was in for a great wordy treat.

Before getting to the good stuff let’s clear the specs first. This a soft cover book measuring 8 by 5 1/2 inches. There are a total of 210 pages. This is a first edition and it is copyrighted 2009. The dark cover portrays a vampire like looking your woman and except for the word erotica on the bottom it is relatively discreet. As the title suggests all the stories involve a certain amount of sensuality and sex mingled with vampires.
Each story is on average 10 pages long. It is an easy read before bedtime if you don’t scare to easy that is. Actually non of the stories are really scary or gory. I would also comment that non of the stories with get you soaking wet and reaching for your favorite vibes either. They are sexual and sensual but I did not find them stimulating necessarily. Oh yeah a funny note: my apartment building was in a black out for like 25 hours…..the longest day of my life without power, light, tv, internet…NADA. But it was perfect for reading such a book which literally used a silver candelabra which used to belong to my grandmother. How apropos is that!

Back to the book, The Sweetest Kiss: Ravishing Vampire Erotica is not going to turn you on but it is certainly a very enjoyable read. Most stories portray vampires as cool and controlled beings who love to play up sexuality with their human toys. A common thread, not all but most, was the specification that vampires prefer feeding from an orgasmic donor as a frightened one gives of bad tasting blood. Orgasmic blood is sweet blood. I like the fact that the authors did not contradict the vampire myth. Also the writing skills are strong here. This is not written like a cheesy Harlequin book but the words and sentences flow nicely like fine wine…or a fine glass of blood if you happen to be a vampire!

Three stories stood out for me. The first is by Thomas Roche and it entitled: Wait until Dark, Montresor. This is the most elegant styled story in the collection hands down, very beautifully written. All written in the second person this story sucks you in with an eclectic young female vampire and who she likes her victims best served. In Fourth World, by Lisabet Sarai, we find two young men lured out of a Bangkok bar into the bed of a beautiful and sensual female vamp who ties them up toys with them sexually until they are sucked dry. Very hot. The last one I really liked is called Red by any Other Name, written by Kathleen Bradean. I identified most with this one because of the bdsm aspect of it. In short a submissive vampire searches in vain for a Mistress who can actually conquer him, that is until he meets our pro-domme heroin, fearful of her customer at first, but end up rising to the challenge in a most unexpected way.

If you like vampire stories and you enjoy well written erotica then I highly recommend you get this book. I can see myself picking it up every once in a while from my book shelf to revisit a favorite story. Thank you again to GoodVibes for sending it to me for an honest review.
