What do you think about when sno flakes come to mind? White fluffy frozen water stars dancing merrily on their way to the cold winter ground? Perhaps your head is tilted up and you tongue is sticking out hoping to melt one in your mouth? Well I may agree with the melt in your mouth part but for me sno flake invokes a fun, happy, sexy lady that has become a friend through the bdsm and fetish party scene. Yep it’s her nick!

And she have a fabulous little thing going on over at etsy.com where she sells really unique and original items like collars, masks, cuffs, clutch purses all mostly made from rubber, metal chains, stubs, O-rings and recycled material. You can find her online store at Not4Play. Well my friend was kind enough to send me an item of my choice so I could review it here on my blog and as always let me mention my reviews are objective and I give an honest opinion.

I wish I could link directly to the collar I chose but her inventory is not mass production, each piece is done one at a time and often it may be a unique design that will be made again, so check out her store to see what is up for grabs now. I guarantee you will fall in love with the eclectic originality. Her designs are totally, fetish, kinky, Goth, Lolita, dark and so pretty. Some items may be more reserved for a bdsm play party but many of the pieces can be incorporated into everyday fashion wear. Did I mention the rubber clutch purses? Yeah I did and I might again, love them!

I digress, let’s get back to the collar review. Let’s call it the Studded and Chained Rubber collar. If you love it and want the same then go to the contact page and ask for a custom order. The collar is made of black rubber and features raised horizontal lines. I really like this detail otherwise a plain smooth surface spells boring to me. It has a width of  1.5 inches and includes 2 lengths of rubber just over 6 inches long. On each end of the lengths you will find 2 eyelets. This model came with 2 pieces of purple ribbon and an extra set of black silk cord to tie the corset on in the same fashion of say a corset. I find this type of closure a bit more time consuming then snaps or a lock but the effect visual impact is so worth it. I think it gives a lovely Victorian look. And just to ad a rough and tough edge to it there are 6 studs added (4 pointy and 2 domed ends) plus a couple of metal chains dangling from some of the studs.

As I said my reviews are honest but hopefully it will be taken as constructive criticism. First thing, there is one edge of the front rubber piece that is unevenly cut but only a perfectionist or a reviewer would pick up on it . Second the studs are screwed in and can easily be unscrewed. Loosing a stud would not be so difficult. I would suggest adding a couple of drops of glue before screwing them on. Third and last comment is about the inside finishing. Two glued rectangles of velvet on the inside where added to hide the protruding back of 2 the domed studs. a good thing as it could chafe the wearer. I would recommend covering the entire back with a lining for a nicer look, not just 2 random squares. Also, many people who get allergic reactions to metal would be thrilled is the inside was all velvet lining as they could wear it without fear of a reaction.

My 3 small comments are about improving the finished look and in no way do they hinder the quality of the items. Keep in mind that hand made items are a craft so some imperfections are normal and add to the charm. The look and feel of the collar is very sturdy yet it is comfortable enough to wear for an extended period of time. It is perfect for those who love a little weight also to their collar. Because of the type of closure this style can fit any neck size if you get some ribbon or cord to the right length. If you buy your own why not get extra colors so you can coordinate with your outfits! This particular model does not have an O-ring but the chains are still perfect for attaching a leach to it if you wish. The collar is of very good quality and should last along time.

And what is the best aspect of these one of a kind collars, cuffs and more wonderful sexy items? The prices are fabulous as Not4Play want to be  affordable so everyone can treat themselves to a special creation. The collar I got for review was listed at $10.00. At the time of writing this review the prices vary between 2.50$ (rubber fetish rings) and $42.00 (the clutch purses). Right now there are a couple of really sexy items with touches of pink, red, yellow and purple. I particularly like the intertwine cuffs.

Collars in particular are so neglected style wise in the mass production overpriced market we really need to encourage your artists making their own unique and special designs. How cool to own a piece you know you will never catch another sub in. Rubber items make a great vegan alternative also for those avoiding leather products. And it just looks dingy, dirty, industrial and so cool! Check out Not4Play to get you own piece of dark wearable art. Oh and if you plan on being at the Montreal Fetish Weekend this coming Labor Day weekend in Montreal, Not4Play will have a table at the KinkExpo so check it out!
