Today is a sad day in the fashion world as it was announced that the avant-garde fashion designer, Alexander McQueen, was found dead in his flat in London a the age of 40. His death was ruled as suicide as he was found hanged. It is believed the death of his mother, nine days previous, pushed him to a major depression. Today his website simply says:

On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family.Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.

What does it have to do with the subject matter of my blog? Well honestly I just recently became aware of his work. He is the designer of most the costume and famous hoof shoes that Lady Gaga wore in the Bad Romance video I bloged about recently which is dripping with BDSM connotations.

After taking a closer look at his creations the BDSM  lifestylers in financial ease could make quite a fetish collection out of his creations. His style is a little goth, regal, Elizabethan or Victorian at other times. So in a way, it’s a loss to the fetish clothing industry too. RIP Alexander McQueen.
