Today up on the review stand is the Singapore Stinger III paddle. Now the first reaction you will have when you get this paddle will be: this is it? I was a bit skeptical taking it out of the plastic bag it was delivered in. This paddle is beyond light and very thin. I did however like the fact that it is made out of bamboo so there is a lovely vertical grain to it. The surface is very smooth yet not varnished. The paddle is 11 inches in length and at it’s widest point it is 4 inches across. There is also a wrist cord is attached to the handle.

Taking the handle into my palm I was satisfied by the comfortable grip. This is not always the case with handles yet it is so important to hold this tool well to use it well. As far as play it cannot be even compared with your usual large heavy frat paddle. It does not even compare to my custom made wooden paddle which can pack quite a wack. But one advantage to its lightness is one can use it for longer periods of time without getting tired.

I was to curious about bamboo and its properties so I looked it up. How will this paddle resist with time? What my research taught me was that bamboo is a considerably strong wood because each strand of the grain is perfectly straight and there are no branches so there are no knots. Yes there are knuckles every few feet but apparently do not significantly weaken the structure of the wood. Bamboo contracts and expands a lot less than wood.

So how does this very light yet strong paddle fell? I would qualify it it as the perfect beginner paddle or for an experienced spanker it could be a nice warm-up tool. Like any SM play make sure to properly warm up the bottom with light taps at first to get the blood flowing. This paddle is perfect for that after a short hand spanking warm up. You can use this Singapore Stinger III paddle sensually too by dragging the smooth surface across the skin and then giving a few light taps.But it is not a pain free toy either. You can hit it hard and it will deliver quite a sting (hence its name). It has a nice loud noise to it when the wack comes in harder. A bottom could easily walk away from a session with this paddle with a couple of light bruises if used long enough. But no worries, you won’t be breaking any bone with the toy.

One big negative point though is the fact that it is not laquered or finished. This bugs me for two reasons.

1. It will be hard t maintain it in a sterile condition. As soon as a bodily fluid gets on it or blood…forget it it’s a 1 person toy. It will technically be a toy that could transmit bacteria at this point.
2. Splinters in the ass anyone?

DISCIPLINE VS PUNISHMENT

Hurray…some feedback. This blog in the spanking series will address a question asked:

“surprised you use it only for discipline and not punishment my question to you would be what is you definition of discipline and of punishment?”

Excellent question. I will do my best to answer it. Basically my philosophy is based on the book Female Domination by Elise Sutton.

Now lets start with punishment because it is easier to describe. For me a punishment is the accomplishment of an unpleasant task or action due to the misbehavior of a sub/slave. A rule may have been broken, neglectful behavior may have been done, results are nowhere near my expectations even with clear instructions, excessive brattiness, etc. You get the idea.

Now for discipline. Let’s look at the root of the word. It comes from the Latin disciplina “instruction”, from the root discere “to learn”. Also from this root is derived the word “disciple”, or pupil. So the pupil (sub or slave) learns from his teacher (Dom/me). Are you all still with me? Now lets wrap it all together within a BDSM context. I regularly discipline (instruct, train) my sub/slave, through spanking mostly, to maintain order. Its my way of making sure he/she does not forget the rules and does not get slack in his/her tasks.

Need a vanilla context to understand better? You must wash your hands before eating. You find it annoying but you impose it on yourself because otherwise you might get sick from eating (food= a pleasurable experience) with dirty hands…which would be a result of your neglect.

Now why do I use spanking only for discipline and not also for punishment? Very simple. Discipline should not bring up feelings of fear, wrong doing, guilt, or any other negative feelings associated with punishment. The pupil should not fear training.

SPANKING: A BLOG SERIES

Whenever I am asked what I like best to administer as discipline the first thing that comes to mind is always the same: spanking. I love spanking a nice bottom.
